Castle Barna Annual Dinner

Castle Barna put on the style for our annual dinner dance in the Bridge House Hotel on Friday last 20^th January. As with every year, it was very well attended and a great night was enjoyed by all. Captain Eileen in her speech said how much she had enjoyed her year as Lady Captain of Castle Barna and wished the incoming Captain Catherine her best wishes for 2012.

Eileen presented the Player of the Year prize to Eilish O’Connell. Phil Carroll was the very well deserved recipient of our Club Person of the Year for 2011. She’ll have plenty of work to keep her busy in 2012 as well!

Winter League

The Saturday 12 hole league competition is in its 4^th week with two to go. Tee time from 12 o’clock to 12.45.

Ladies Club AGM

The Ladies AGM will take place on Wednesday 25^th at 8 o’clock. All lady members are welcome to attend.

Santa Hat Day
10^th December

The traditional 9 hole Santa Hat competition was held on Saturday 10^th Dec. Some nice winter sunshine brought out lots of ladies in their Santa Hats.

The Winter Leagues begin next week 12 December with a teetime of 12:00 and the format will be a 12 hole competition. This will wrap up our golf for the year before we unwrap our Christmas presents!

The Castle Barna Annual Dinner will take place on Fri 20 January. Tickets are available in the Club House.Our AGM will take place on 25 January at 8:00.

And finally Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our members and their families and friends. A big thank you to all who supported and sponsored our competitions throughout the year. The golf was great this year and here’s hoping it will be even better in 2012!

SANTA HAT DAY on 10 DECEMBER

Santa Hat Day is a very popular fun day in the Castle Barna calendar and is sure to get you into the swing of the festive season! It will be a 9 hole competition and the time sheet runs from 12.15. This will be followed by buffet supper served by Joe and his team.  There is still time to join in put your name on the list in ladies locker room or ring the clubhouse on 057 9353384. Outstanding prizes will also be presented on the evening. And don’t forget to bring your Santa Hat!

Turkey Competition and Midweek 9 Hole

This competition can be played at any time. Competition cards and entry book are in the Ladies Locker room. Don’t forget our 9 Hole Stableford competition which can be played on Wednesday Mornings tee time from 11:00.

Saturday 22^nd October is the first week of the Vanity Hamper Competition. Tee time 1.30pm. This is a 14 hole Stableford Competition and will be run over six weeks.

Seniors Captains Day and Past Captains Day

We had two special days recently in the Castle Barna calender which were very well supported.  Firstly the senior Captains Day hosted by Kay O’Connor and  of course the past Captains Day. Good golf, good food, music and craic were enjoyed by all.

On Wednesday 28th the sun brought out a lot of new lady golfers to make our scramble a great success. The winners on the evening were Ann Fallon, Ber Malone and Deirdre Garry. Evelyn Mangan sponsored the prizes.

Unfortunately the summer is over and our Wednesday evening competitions have come to an end for this year. For the winter months we hope to have a 9-hole competition on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am. Please put your name on the time sheet in the clubhouse if you’re interested in taking part.

TURKEY COMPETITION

Our 9-hole turkey competition is also up and running. This can be played at any time so come along and win your Christmas dinner. Competition cards and the entry book are in the ladies locker room.

Lady Presidents Prize

Next weekend sees our last major competition for the year, the Lady Presidents Prize. The format will be Stableford played over 27 holes. The time sheet is available in clubhouse. Castle Barna will host a fund raiser next Friday for Cancer Research. The competition will be an Open Mixed 4 Ball and the prizes will be sponsored by Dermot Hall Men’s Wear. The competition on Wednesday 29^th was won by Ruth Curran with Geraldine Heavey in second place. Caitllin Ni Shuillibhan sponsored the prize.

Saturday 18 Hole Competition

We had change to the usual singles format on Saturday 2 July with a three lady team event. Oonagh Flynn, Ber Malone and Teresa Dixon proved to be a winning combination on the day. The competition was kindly sponsored by Mark Heffernan.

Australian Spoons Competition

Kay O’Connor and Laura Dempsey represented Castle Barna in Carlow Golf Club on July 4. Unfortunately, despite their valiant effort, they did not make it to the next round.

South Meath Cup

The final game in The South Meath Cup took place on Sunday July 10. Eilish O’Connell, Teresa Bermingham, Jane Kennedy and Geraldine Heavey put in a great performance with the best score on the day. However, they had to be satisfied with 2^nd place. Congratulations to team manager Eileen Wynne and the team. Thanks also to our supporters who came along to cheer us on!

Wednesday 9 Hole Competition

Open 2 Ball Scramble 15 June

Wednesday 15^th saw a great turn out for this event in support of Breast Cancer Research. Ladies from many local clubs competed and made the day a great success. Our thanks also go to Lancôme who kindly sponsored the prizes.

Lady Captains Prize

The first week of Lady Captains Eileen Wynne’s Prize was played on Saturday 18^th June. With the weather good and the course in excellent condition many good score cards were completed. Next Saturday 25^th will be the second day of this 36 Hole Stroke Accumulator event and, with many prize categories to play for, the competition will be fierce. The time sheet will run from midday and ladies can phone the clubhouse for their time slot.  To celebrate the big day with Eileen there will be a buffet supper in the clubhouse at 8:00 followed by presentation of prizes. A good night is promised with ceol agus craic!
